How To Successfully Build UX Around Your Product Or Service

Louie Pitlo

September 14, 2018

Part and parcel of the user experience articles you came across with or your UI design training or even recommendations of your UX graphic designer are the importance of user experience to develop user engagement with your users.

Your strategic design will be a fusion of your organisational goals with every aspect of the design process. You aren’t simply designing a user interface that looks good and is usable and accessible; your design should help you accomplish your organisation’s objectives.

Keep in mind that a good design will solve your problems and the problems experienced by your customers. Through simple navigation and usability, your design will attract the right audience and establish the trust that leads to further business.

Let’s take a look at how we can use these steps to think strategically about a web design project:

  • Identifying Problems

Are you failing to gain traffic and revenue from your site? A key strategy is to put yourself in the frame of mind of your target users. Learn what they’re looking for and why they’re visiting your site in the first place. Look into the analytics of your website as well as landing pages. Also, search for key metrics that help you identify problems. For example, analytics for customer journeys enables you to find opportunities for improvement and quickly correct any problems.

  • Time on Site

How long are visitors on your site? Determine if you are capturing their attention long enough to make your voice heard. Web design and user experience keep visitors interested. So if they aren’t staying on your site now, enhance and simplify the design and get them to stay.

  • Bounce Rates

When you optimise your UX design you encourage visitors to explore your website. You have to create a captivating design, lest your visitors will lose interest and bounce. So if it's outdated and doesn’t pop in the Google rank, your visitors won’t view you as a credible source for information or trust your services.

This then will lead to a high bounce rate, meaning, when a user lands on your site and immediately leaves. Consistent updates will help lower your bounce rate. So do these effectively by updating your content, improve page load speed, and offer simple navigation.

  • UX Surveys

User feedback is the key to creating a satisfying user experience and actively and consistently put you into the minds of your consumers and learn how your site impacts them. Use this information to identify issues and create a positive experience.

Always test and gather information about your website. Create feedback surveys that are designed to deliver valuable information that will help you design a more appealing website for your users. Remember to keep the surveys short and ask only what you need to know. Then offer options to garner the most truthful results and feedback.

Through your website and mobile app design, think about the experience you are providing your customers. This will lead to more downloads, more visits, and more interaction with your brand.

  • Exit Pages

It’s always beneficial to look at all angles- even a few quick exits. Come to think of it, your competition could be visiting your site and leaving without converting. That’s not a problem with your design. When you look further into the exit pages, it will help you determine whether important pages of the conversion funnel have a high exit rate. If so, you should be concerned…and high time for you to analyse each page with a high exit rate. Ask yourself: does it offer value and present your information in an engaging manner and is there potential to give your users further value on these pages.

Creating a memorable user experience results in a significant ROI for your business. Your design and message should appeal to your visitors, and focus on optimising the experience and the value of your site for increased exposure to the right audience.

Designing an excellent experience is crucial especially since the internet is too crowded to blend in. The experience will always be present. Make that experience positive - invest in a design that provides trust.
